GSY Series begins 2021 with a longshot victory

East Rutherford, NJ — Before the rain hit The Meadowlands, the amateurs took to the track in the third race with 10 pacers vying for superiority.

With the new year, it didn’t bring the normal speed duel, but it did bring fast fractions for the quarter and half (:26.4 and :54.4). That was because Scirocco Mistysaid (Mark Silva) was used hard to get to the lead after the quarter-mile over pace setter So So De Vie(Tony Beltrami). They stayed this way as the field turned for home but the outer flow was out early and in full force to chase down the leaders. That is exactly what happened deep down the lane as the closers came calling and were able to collar the top two along with a few others to create a blanket finish, with five horses within a length at the finish.

As track announcer Ken Warkentin said, “Where did James Foley come from?” Foley, driving Rock On Line, was able to get up at the wire to win by a neck after getting away eighth from his starting nine-hole position. He paced the mile in a swift 1:53.

McNulty Z Tam(Tony Ciuffetelli) finished second and Whatstroublnurocky(Robert Hechkoff) finished third.

This seven year old horse is out of Kandy’s Delight and is sired by Rock N Roll Heaven. He is owned by Terrence Smith and is trained by Williams Hernandez.

The GSY pacers will be back next Friday night and the first post is scheduled for 6 p.m.
