Hannah Miller wins Hall of Fame amateur trot at Delaware

Delaware, OH — She’s back — and winning again. “Hurricane Hannah” Miller, the two-time National Amateur Driver of the Year Thursday (Sept. 19) displayed the talent that propelled her to the top of the amateur driving ranks when she guided Inukchuk Chuck to a solid 3-3/4 length triumph in the Hall of Fame & Museum Series Trot at the home of the Little Brown Jug.

Competing in a field of gentlemen and lady drivers, most of whom are members of the Billings Series, Miller sat chilly on the limb and when the eight-horse field headed for paydirt she rallied her veteran trotter to a 1:56.1 victory, holding off the betting favorite, Utopia, and driver Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford.

After starting from the three-hole Miller had her sights on the front end but “Dandy Daniele” Orsini, with Mega Moss, had different ideas and refused to let the lady take command. So being parked Miller kept charging and the two raced side by side all the way to the three-quarters before she took command at the top of the lane.

And when “Hurricane Hannah” and Inukchuk Chuck headed down the lane it was obvious that no one was going to catch them, not even Steve Oldford’s Utopia, who ended up with second money. Mega Moss held on for the show dough.

It was the second consecutive victory at the Delaware County Fair for Inukchuk Chuck and Hannah Miller, after having won a Billings Trot just four days prior. And for the trotter it was his sixth seasonal triumph.

The 6-year-old altered son of Muscles Yankee is owned by Cliff Grundy and trained by Nick Surick. He paid $5.60 to win.
