Harrah’s Hoosier Park strangles advisory

Anderson, IN — On Tuesday (Aug. 18), management at Harrah’s Hoosier Park and the Indiana Horse Racing Commission were made aware of a horse diagnosed with strangles stabled at the Sawgrass Training Center in Illinois.

As a result, Harrah’s Hoosier Park, in conjunction with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission, is taking the following steps:

• All horses scheduled to race tonight stabled at Sawgrass Training Center have been scratched. Also those impacted trainers have been informed not to bring those horses to Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
• Horses from the Sawgrass Training Center scheduled to race on Wednesday (Aug. 19) and Thursday (Aug. 20) will be scratched.
• No entries from horses stabled at the Sawgrass Training Center will be accepted, nor will those horses be allowed on the Harrah’s Hoosier Park premises, nor will those horses be allowed to race at Harrah’s Hoosier Park until Harrah’s Hoosier Park and the Indiana Horse Racing Commission have been assured by medical authorities that it is safe to do so.

Horsemen are asked to remain vigilant and monitor their horses for symptoms associated with strangles.

Any questions regarding this situation should be directed to Rick Moore, vice president and general manager of racing at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
