East Rutherford, NJ — With a light rain falling over the Meadowlands for the start of the Friday night card, nine pacers went to post this week’s GSY amateur event. 

With several leavers vying for the top in the first turn over the good surface, Velocity Sub Z (Benson Merrill) took command through the first quarter.  He was able to sustain that lead as the pacers charged into the turn over the mud packed surface, but that is when a host of closers came calling and overtook the race leader.

Rockinwiththebest (Bob Hechkoff) emerged to the top and never looked back en route to his 1-1/2 length victory. A hard-charging Rather Swell (“Bullet” Bob Davis), got up for second over CC Big Boy Sam (Monica Banca).  The mud splashed mile was timed in 1:53.2.  This 6-year-old gelding out of Rockin Image is owned and trained by Brandon Mongiello.                                  

The GSY will be back next week for its fifth leg of the GSY Series with a first race post is slated for 7:15 p.m.
