Hillbilly Jet scores at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Hillbilly Jet ($6.20) has been a victim of success. Starting from post seven or eight for the sixth straight race, the 4-year-old daughter of Ponder finally took things into her own hands Wednesday night (Oct. 31) at Rosecroft Raceway.

Having finished second in three of her last four, and post positions for the top mares event determined by money earned, she bolted from post seven (moved in one via scratch) and took the field coast to coast in a lifetime best 1:52.4. Driver Frank Milby gunned his charge to the front, out-sprinting Winter Games just past the first quarter of :26.4. Jonathan Roberts tried gamely with his pocket sitter to catch the winner but came up a neck short. Rowdy Patti, last week’s winner, was a good third for Jason Thompson, rallying from last.

Stuart Oppenheimer and Bob Bove own the winner and she is conditioned by Brian Callahan. Her lifetime totals are impressive, finishing in the top in three 44 of 70 lifetime starts.

Milby also took the opener with Roddy’s Girl for Leonard Hubbard and trainer Frank Gannon III.

Driver John Wagner posted three straight wins, taking races three through five.

In race three, Maryann’s A Player ($15.20) edged past Charlie Undercover in the final sixteenth of the mile to pick up her second lifetime win for Pamela Wagner and Syl King Jr. It was the first of two wins for leading trainer Arlene Cameron.

Paddy Ponder ($6.40), a 2-year old Ponder filly, has shown flashes of great speed but has been unable to finish miles. Wednesday night she went the route for Wagner in 1:58.1, holding off Application (Jason Green) and Hillbilly Hope (Roger Plante) to take race four for Tom Cooke and trainer Roger Hans.

In race five, favored Pedal Power ($6.00) tracked Princess Finola (Plante) and edged past in the stretch for her first win since Wagner purchased her six starts ago.

Plante had a double with Hillbilly Heartache ($6.20) for Hillbilly Haven Farms and trainer Amanda Jackson and Quarter Til Eight for Lesley Stayton and trainer John Bennett.

Jason Thompson had a pair of wins on the night. Bella Chippie ($21.20) scored for Michael Nikodemski and trainer Roberta Nikodemski and in the finale Thompson won with Hey Dali ($12.40) for James and Roberta Eveland.
