Home’n Dry upsets in Dover feature

Dover, DE — After racing in the slop his last three starts, Home’n Dry found the dry surface much to his liking on Tuesday night (Jan. 21) at Dover Downs, springing an 8-1 upset in the $25,000 Open Handicap Trot.

Home’n Dry and driver Tyler Davis took the field to the quarter in :27.2 before Jack Vernon (Tim Tetrick) advanced from third to argue the lead. Jack Vernon cleared past a :55 half and led the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:23.3.

Davis confidently pulled the pocket on the final turn and simply wore down 1-2 favorite Jack Vernon in the final strides, winning by a half length in a lifetime best 1:52.2. Jack Vernon was a battle-worn second, and Royal Becca J (Jack Parker Jr.) finished third.
