Hudson Phil strikes gold at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY — After spending much of his 2021 season competing away from the New York Capital region, Hudson Phil prevailed as the even-money favorite in Sunday’s (Dec. 12) installment of the $15,000 Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

The Jackie Greene-trained son of Shanghai Phil wound up first-over in pursuit of pacesetter Andreios Kardia, but he didn’t remain overland for long. Hudson Phil, with Billy Dobson in tow, powered past the leader approaching the three-quarter pole before drawing out to an insurmountable lead and winning in 1:53.2, boosting his seasonal earnings to over $100,000. Macheasy (Jay Randall) was the runner-up; Andreios Kardia (Larry Stalbaum) had to settle for third.

Hudson Phil, who campaigns for the Kellogg Racing Stable, paid $4.10 to win, and lead an exacta and triple that returned $12.20 and $68.00, respectively.

Live racing at Saratoga continues on Monday afternoon (Dec. 13); first post is 12 noon.
