Illinois Horse Fair is cancelled

Springfield, IL — The 2008 Illinois Horse Fair scheduled for February 29-March 2 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill., has been cancelled.

Areas of the fairgrounds have been affected by electrical power outages from a source that has yet to be found.

Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Chuck Hartke has said that crews have been working diligently to find and repair the problem.

The American Standardbred Adoption Program, with director Susan Wellman, has been a part of one of the more popular exhibitions and staples of the Horse Fair, the Breed Demonstrations.

Wellman was planning to bring 2007 retiree and Illinois Harness Horse Hall of Famer Taser Gun to the 2008 event. The altered son of Henry Lets Go ended his career with purse earnings of over $1.2 million.

For more information regarding scheduled events that may still be affected by electrical problems at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, please visit the Ag. Department’s Web site at: http://www.agr.state.il.us/index.html.
