Humboldt, IA — The Iowa Harness Horse Association is excited to announce the first ever Iowa Fairs Racing Championships, to be be held at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 22-23).

The Iowa racing season began in May with racing at county fairgrounds across the state. The top five point-earning entries in each division will race in the $12,000 Iowa Fairs Racing Championship races on Sunday (Sept. 23). These horses are the best in their class and have proved it time and again throughout the grueling season.

There will be championship divisions for 2- and 3-year-olds of each gait and sex.

Each championship race on Sunday will honor a person or family involved in harness racing in western Iowa with a blanket presentation to follow the race. Memorial blanket honorees include Cliff Card, John Lems, Lyle Bunston, Pete Mouw, Duke Edge, Glenn and Lorraine Jenson, and the Terwilliger family. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.

The next five point-earning entries will race in eight Iowa County Fairs Consolation races on Saturday (Sept. 22). The card will also feature the last competition of the year for older horses.

There will be t-shirt giveaway contests on Facebook and IaHHA bags and decks of cards for Pick-A-Winner drawings in the stands. Saturday will also feature a $1,500 Pick 10. Any person that correctly picks the winner of the first ten races will win a $1,500 check on the spot.
