from the Iowa Harness Horse Association

What Cheer, IA — Seven fields of top 3-year-olds competed in the last meet of the year at What Cheer this weekend (Sept. 8 and 9) before moving to Humboldt for the final two meets.

A field of eight went to the gate in the sole division of 3-year-old trotting colts, with top colt Scramble Camp drawing post position seven in the second tier. Hotrod Richard and Will Roland took advantage of a front row position and led the field until the finish when Scramble Camp and Dan Roland snapped them at the wire in 2:02. Scramble Camp is trained by Dan Roland and owned by Jeri Roland, CD Huffman and Larry Mather.

Dakota Ole is joinedby the Larson family for his first win of 2018.

The 3-year-old trotting fillies continue to be a tough group, again out-trotting the colts. Ima Juggernaut remains the only horse undefeated in Iowa-registered racing in 2018, winning all eight meets to date. The Lou’s Legacy filly posted a new lifetime mark with Mark Mintun at the helm trotting home in 2:01.2 for owners Mintun and Stephanie Gould. The other division of trotting fillies went to trainer Joel McDanel’s Iowa-sired champion filly Windy Sue in 2:06. The Southwind Elian filly is also owned by Mintun with partner Lesa Peters.

Three-year-old filly pacers continue to be a competitive group. Coming off a second place finish at What Cheer last weekend, I’m On A Terror paced the fastest mile of the day with Will Roland in the bike in 1:59.4. Trained by Brian Anfinson, the Fansy Schmansy filly is owned by Brian Anfinson and Jesse Delong. Will Roland also piloted second divisional winner Lippy Doo. The Voracious Hanover filly paced in 2:00, increasing her winning streak to three in a row for trainer Curtis Carey and owners Jesse, Eric and Ben Delong.

Dakota Ole found the winners circle for the first time in 2018 taking the first division of the Steve “Fuzz” Snyder Memorial 3-year-old colt & gelding pace in 2:01.4 for owners Brian & Kim Larson. The Millionaire Cam colt is trained by Brian Larson and driven by his son Cory Larson. Scott Smith trained and drove Feisty Fireball to victory in the second division. The Sneaky B Skipalong gelding dodged some raceway traffic late in the mile and stole a win in 2:01 for owners Shirley Smith and Debbie Philipp, a fast enough mile to earn the memorial blanket and trophy.

Iowa racing action resumes the weekend of Sept. 15 at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Central.
