Freehold, NJ — A $5,000 RUS trot, sponsored by The Open Space Pace, was held at Freehold Raceway on Sept. 21.

It was part of Sam Landy and his partner’s efforts during the second annual Open Space Pace Day, created to draw new interest to the harness industry in New Jersey.

Jenny Melander rode Celebrity Playboy to a 2:06.2 score.

A field of eight trotters were entered to race and it was a gate-to-wire performance by the 9-year-old Celebrity Playboy, owned and trained by local trainer Bob Breshnahan.

Jenny Melander rode the horse to an eight length victory over Master Pine and Helene Gregory. That pair recovered from a short mishap after the half-mile when he went off stride but got back trotting and finished in a strong :30.3 last quarter.

Celebrity Playboy was timed in 2:06.2 for the mile.

Third place went to Ruth Calcagni on Docdor Chaser. The fourth check was picked up by John-michael, trained by Jim Doherty, Jr. and ridden by Mary Dolce Conti and fifth went to Lemon Papper and Jennifer Lowrey.

Also in the race was Mr Go and Tara Hynes, Southwind Cornell with Caroline Green and Striking Mystery ridden by CJ Millar.

RUS America appreciates the support from Open Space Pace and Freehold Raceway.
