Joey Bats takes lifetime mark in Dover trot

Dover, DE — Joey Bats took a lifetime mark in the $25,000 Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs on Tuesday night (Nov. 19).

Tony Morgan blasted out of the gate to establish the lead with the 4-year-old Holiday Road gelding, and Lagerfeld (Yannick Gingras) protected rail position, forcing 4-5 favorite Scirocco Rob to take a seat in third.

Joey Bats set fractions of :27, :55.4 and 1:24 on his way to a lifetime-best 1:52.3 mile for trainer Andrew Harris and the partnership of Scott Dillon, Michele Nelson and Marc Reynolds. Majestic Marvel finished second, out-trotting Lagerfeld in the lane. Scirocco Rob, who pulled first-up and could not gain on the leader, finished fourth.
