Kauffman scores Miami Valley grand slam

Lebanon, OH — Driver Kayne Kauffman had the hot hand at Miami Valley Raceway on Sunday (April 18) with four wins on the 14-race program.

His first winner was Socialprob Hanover, who clocked a 1:55.1 mile for trainer Tim Lane in a conditioned claiming event. The lightly-raced 3-year-old notched his second career triumph and returned $4.20 as the betting favorite.

Kauffman next guided the trotter Guccio ATM to a 1:55 victory in a $14,000 conditioned event for trainer Herman Hagerman, returning $6.00 for his second seasonal win.

Kauffman’s most impressive winner hailed from his own barn as Babs Jansen, an offseason acquisition, won convincingly from the outermost post position in 1:53.4. The 3-year-old Ohio-sired daughter of Racing Hill, now owned by Steve Herrick and Mark Bogen along with Kauffman’s wife, Natalie, has two wins in just eight starts. Last season, Babs Jansen was conditioned by Tony Alagna and finished fifth in The Standardbred freshman filly pace during Delaware, Ohio, Grand Circuit week.

Caviart Cooper rewarded Kauffman with his fourth visit to the winner’s circle, also giving trainer Herman Hagerman his second win on the day. Their backers received a $6.20 win payoff for the 1:53.3 mile in an $8,000 conditioned pace for older horses.

Racing resumes both Monday (April 19) and Tuesday (April 20), with a 2:05 p.m. post time each day.
