Kayne Kauffman wins four at Miami Valley

Lebanon, OH — Kayne Kauffman captured the $17,500 featured trot at Miami Valley on Sunday (Jan. 16), one of four winning dashes through the snow on a wintry day at the southwest Ohio oval.

Kauffman scored with Rose Run Valor, who he also trains and who is owned by his wife Natalie, in 1:57.2 over the snow covered strip. He bested Mickey Z Tam (Joe Carter) and Impressive Chief (Cam McCown) for his ninth career victory, raising his lifetime bounty to $84,729.

The red and white clad Kauffman opened the program by winning with Sharplookin Finale for owner Scott Hagemeyer and trainer A. J. Carlo. It was the 20th triumph for the $100,000 winner, but first in two years.

Kayne followed up with a 1:54.4 tally in a $10,000 claimer by PC’s Expresso. Also from the Kauffman barn, the 7-year-old son of Western Ideal is owned by Mary Megerle.

In the 13th race, another division of $10,000 claimers, Kauffman notched an upset win with Seen Before Heard. Jeffrey Fickert trains the winner for owners Marty Wogoman and Freedom Stables. The 7-year-old son of We Will See now sports 18 lifetime wins and just over $105,000 in earnings.

Leading driver Trace Tetrick notched a double on the program, while Dan Noble and Jeremy Smith also managed two wins each.

Miami Valley races from Sunday through Thursday with a 4:05 p.m. post time each program.
