Maywood shows gains in wagering

Melrose Park, IL — Maywood Park, the Chicago circuit’s half-mile oval, has continued to be one of the more solid betting options in the country. As the Windy City’s 2007 season rolls into its second month, the results show the Maywood Park signal to be increasingly popular with the national simulcast audience.

Friday evening wagering on Maywood Park in January showed solid gains, improving 8.2% over January Fridays in 2006. The average wagering on a 2007 Friday Maywood Park race in January handled $119,735. The average handle on a Maywood Park Friday program this past month was $1,556,567.

Last Friday (January 26) recorded the season high handle of $1,653,903. Six different races recorded wagering of over $150,000. The ninth race handle of $182,456 was a season high for 2007.

At our sister track Balmoral Park, the Bal-Cal Pick 4 returned for the second time of the new year on Wednesday, January 31. The opening week pool on Wednesday, January 24 was $26,224. The Bal-Cal Pick 4 has a $25,000 guaranteed pool and is offered every Wednesday night.

A reminder: Coming up is Super Bowl Sunday and there will be no live racing at Balmoral Park.
