Milby dominates late for a driving four-bagger at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Defending dash champion Frank Milby and Romantic Interest ($4.80) have been virtually unbeatable at Rosecroft Raceway. The 5-year old son of Always A Virgin has now won six straight appearances in the Open Handicap Pace, scorching the Rosecroft oval in 1:50.4 Sunday night (Feb. 23).

It was a fourth win in 2020 and his seasonal earnings now sit at $24,250 in seven starts. His last loss at Rosecroft came in the Maryland Invitational on Potomac Pace night when he finished second to Rollin Ring Afire.

The win started a sweep of the final three races for Milby, two of which came for his mom Candy Milby who owns Romantic Interest and Artic Adventure ($3.00) who held off pocket-sitter Makin Money Fast in 1:53. Milby then sat in the pocket with Jody Cahall’s Disturbia, who nailed Prince Clyde in the final strides to pay $16 in the finale for trainer Trevor Stafford.

Milby started the card winning a competitive claimer with Always A Tiger ($8.80) as he rallied from seventh to catch pacesetter and 30-1 shot Jet Aviation by a neck. Joseph Plummer owns the 10-year old Cam Terrific gelding and Jason Walters conditions the veteran pacer who won for the 39th time in his career.

Allan Davis has won 34 races so far in 2020, however, only one had occurred at Rosecroft in 34 drives coming into Sunday night. The 44-year old Davis changed that trend, winning three on the card.

Wheres My Money ($3.20) was a beaten favorite three straight starts heading into Sunday night. Sitting seventh while pacesetter Application posted a :31 split in the second quarter, the favorite for a fourth straight week appeared to be in trouble. Davis simply wouldn’t let his charge lose this night, propelling the son of Somebeachsomewhere three wide from just after the five-eighths mark on and nailing Red Mustang by the slimmest of margins. Howard Birney owns and trains the 4-year-old pacer who is now 2-30 lifetime.

Davis sat the pocket with Beammeupscottie ($9.80) and edged the pacesetter Buckeye N in 1:54.1 for owner-trainer Brian Callahan. It was the 34th career win for the 10-year-old son of Rustler Hanover.

Talking Blues kept it going for the 10-year-old pacers on Sunday night, winning in 1:55.4 for trainer Will Reynolds. It was the 36th career win for the son of Rocknroll Hanover who is owned by Twin Ponds Stable and Johnny Crites Jr.

John Wagner, the meet’s leading driver, ran his total to 25 with a pair of wins as Sweet Cruiser won easily in his first start in the Arlene Cameron barn in 1:55.1. Wagner then won by 10-1/2 lengths with Bryan Truitt Jr.’s BT’s Breeze in 1:52.2 in his first start since July.

The night of senior citizen pacers was capped off by 13-year-old Fall Toy ($7.60) who won for Jason Thompson in 1:55.3, nipping pacesetter True Cut by a head. Darren and Cole Olsen own the son of Powerful Toy who scored for the 40th time in his career. Keith Tull trains the veteran pacer who won for the first time this year in five starts.
