Moni Viking wins Aby Stora Pris in a new world record

The 7-year-old Norwegian bred and owned trotter Moni Viking, with trainer Björn Goop in the bike, won the prestigious Aby Stora Pris over two miles at Aby, Gothenburg in a new world record of 1:56.2f (mile rate).

The previous record was held by Propulsion, who won the race last year in 1:57.1f (mile rate).

Moni Viking was placed in the middle of the field and with 600 meters to go, Goop made his move. Leading Who’s Who with Ôrjan Kihlström defended himself bravely, but at the finish line Moni Viking was the strongest and won by 1-1/2 lengths.

The purse for the winner was $230,000.

Moni Viking and Who’s Who are sired by Swedish stallion Maharajah.
