NJRC seeking Presiding Judge

Trenton, NJ – An opportunity currently exists in the unclassified service with the Department of Law & Public Safety,
New Jersey Racing Commission, for applicants who meet the requirements listed below:

TITLE: Official, New Jersey Racing Commission
(Presiding Judge)

SALARY: $86,000.00 to $95,000.00

LOCATION: New Jersey Racing Commission
Meadowlands Racetrack
1 Racetrack Drive
East Rutherford, NJ 07073

Travel to various Racetracks is required and also must work mandatory weekend hours
during live racing.

NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: One (1)

DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the New Jersey Racing Commission
the official is responsible for the enforcement of rules and regulations governing horse racing contests and
events; officiates and oversees pre- and post-race proceedings and the judging of racing contests; authorizes
and conducts investigations; conducts hearings; suspends and/or fines individuals for cited infractions of
rules; performs other related work as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in the horse racing industry, two (2) years of which shall
have included experience as an official presiding over horse racing related activities, one (1) year of which
shall have included experience involving pari-mutuel wagering operations and activities.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience on a
year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a valid license issued by the Racing Officials
Accreditation Program (ROAP) to officiate at flat racing and/or harness horse races.
Appointee may be required to possess membership in the Association of Racing Commissioners
International (ARCI).

Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle,
rather than employee mobility, is required to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to applicants who possess accreditation from the Racing
Officials Accreditation Program to officiate harness races. Appointee must be licensed by the United States
Trotting Association in the capacity of Presiding Judge.
