After setting a 1:54.4 lifetime mark in the first leg of the series and also winning in leg two, North Country wound up the 3-5 favorite after the late scratch of potential contender Pursuit Of Speed.

Tsimis, who scored in her second-leg division of the series, cut the mile over a sloppy track, controlling fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.2 while North Country settled in fourth. But when Billy Dobson tipped North Country off second-over cover into the final turn, it was over. The 3-year-old Roll With Joe filly paced right past Tsimis before powering away to win by 2-3/4 lengths. Tsimis (Jimmy Devaux) held second, while long shot Miley Rose (Jay Randall) followed the winner’s cover into third.

North Country, whom Jeff Nanna owns and Monica Krist trains, notched her seventh victory of 2021 and increased her seasonal earnings to over $70,000. She paid $3.30 to win and led an exacta and trifecta that returned $9.60 and $91.50, respectively.

Live racing at Saratoga resumes on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 31); post time is 12 noon.
