Northern Express blasted off the outside wing of the starting gate to control fractions of :28.1, :57.1 and 1:26.1 while Quiksilvr Bluechip tracked from the pocket. Victor Kirby angled Quiksilvr Bluechip to the open stretch off the turn for home, but could not threaten Northern Express, who won by a measured half length in 1:54.4. Swansea (Tony Morgan) finished third.

Arty Foster Jr. owns and trains Northern Express, a 6-year-old Muscle Massive gelding who paid $4.00 to win.

Wednesday’s (Jan. 19) card is headlined by a Winners Over/Select Handicap for pacing mares. First post is 4:30 p.m.
