Oak Grove Racing and Gaming cancels for Sunday

Oak Grove, KY — Due to severe rain and wind that pummeled the Oak Grove, Ky., area this afternoon, qualifiers and races scheduled for Sunday (Oct. 27) have been canceled.

“At approximately 3:05 p.m. this afternoon, derecho like winds and rain came through the area,” said Director of Racing Peter Szymanski, “and for a sustained 15 minute period, winds up to 75 miles per hour hammered us and the surrounding area.”

“As a result, most of the infrastructure has been disabled — power, betting, beverage and food tents, fencing — and even our new scaffold-like structure that housed the judges, charter, video services and the announcer. Thankfully, all exited the structure safely.”

As of this writing, the majority of the City of Oak Grove is without power. Horsemen are asked to contact the race office for further information — assuming power is restored soon.

Racing is scheduled to resume next Friday (Nov. 1) with a 1:05 p.m. post time.
