Ohio horseman dies in auto accident

Columbus, OH — A longtime Ohio horseman was found dead at the scene of a car accident on Sunday morning, Jan. 17.

According to a story in the Greenville Daily Advocate, Gale C. Dubbs, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sherrif Toby Spencer told the paper that Mr. Dubbs was involved in a single-car accident sometime late on Saturday night or during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The crash occurred on State Route 121 south of Greenville and north of U.S. 36. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and down a steep embankment before rolling several times.

The accident remains under investigation.

Mr. Dubbs, a resident of New Madison, Ohio, was active in the sport for several decades as both a trainer and driver. According to USTA records, he drove 58 winners in his career to earnings of $63,100. Since 1991, his trainees won 16 times and banked $82,063.
