Oldford wins AHDC trot at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — It was a scorching 89 degree late afternoon at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono and with the heat came invaders from around the country for the AHDC trot. Steve Oldford, who runs GLADA, which is a Midwest Amateur club, and Dein Spriggs, who runs FADC, which is the Florida Amateur club, both made the trek to Northeastern PA and their presence was felt in a big way.

Spriggs immediately sent Uva Hanover to the lead and he rang the first quarter teletimer in a blazing :26.4, putting last week’s pacesetter Da Boogie Man and Tony Ciuffetelli in the two hole.

The field stayed in line until about the half when Oldford pulled Zooming to the outside and quickly forged up to challenge Uva Hanover past the three-quarter pole in 1:25.4.

Midway through the lane Zooming cleared the tiring front runner and coasted to an easy 4-1/4 length victory. Hot Summer Knight and Robert Krivelin charged up for the place spot while last week’s winner French Moni and Tony Beltrami secured the show money.

For Zooming it was his 67th career victory with earnings of $1.1 million. It was Oldford’s fourth win of the 2021 campaign and 182nd of his career.

The AHDC will take off next week for the Fourth of July holiday but will be back slugging it out on July 11.
