The York, Pennsylvania Fair hosted 2-year-old trotters and pacers on Monday, September 10, with nine stake events on the schedule.

Russell Williams’ Tatterdemalion (Mr Lavec) opened the day with a win in the 2-year-old Quaker Stake for PA-owned or PA-sired horses. The filly trotted in 2:09.3 for a nine length victory with trainer/driver Pete Kaiser in the bike.

The lone Quaker pacing division was won by When You Smile (Dragon Again), who held off DVC Easy Does It by less than a length in 2:06.3. Roger Hammer trains and reined the winner. Hammer co-owns the filly with Samuel Santeusanio.

The first PA Sires Stake of the day was a 2-year-old colt trotting division, won by RT Dandy Lion and trainer/driver Robert Rougeaux. The Ebanks gelding scored in 2:10.2 by over 16 lengths for owner Harold Brocious.

His margin of victory was nearly equaled in the second division, as Keystone Teddy (Lindy Lane) took advantage of an early break by KT Me Me and won by 13-plus lengths in 2:10 for trainer/driver Todd Schadel. Schadel co-owns the winner with Roger Hammer.

Two groups of PASS filly trotters took to the track next, with victories going to DNJ’s Merry Dancer (Wonder Dancer) and Coyote Lara (Malabar Millennium). DNJ’s Merry Dancer took a pocket trip and scored in 2:07.3 for owners Ellen Warren and Doris Copp, trainer Eileen Lineweaver and driver Winston Lineweaver. Coyote Lara was a 2:08.3 wire-to-wire victor for owner/trainer/driver Kim Good.

The single $4,085 freshman PASS colt pace was won by SB Quents Knight, a Quentin Hanover gelding, in a quick 2:01.3. Owner/trainer/driver Dave Brickell found himself sitting last in the field of five at the three-quarter pole, but managed to close in :29.4 to pick up the victory.

The day’s final two stakes were 2-year-old filly pacing splits, won by Graceful Art (Arturo) and Ty’s Artist (Real Artist). Luis Porfilio, who also owns and trains Graceful Art, guided the filly to a 2:02.1 win by 11 lengths, while Ty’s Artist scored for Roger Hammer in 2:01.4. Hammer also owns and trains the filly.

The day ended with a pair of Free-For-All pacing events, won by Cheap Skate and Artomatic Pilot. Hammer guided Cheap Skate to a 2:01.1 win, while Artomatic Pilot scored in 2:05 for Schadel.

Racing concludes at York on Tuesday, September 11.
