PA State Horse Racing Commission to consider action on clenbuterol, betamethasone at December meeting

Columbus, OH — During last Wednesday’s (Nov. 28) regularly scheduled meeting of the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission, it was noted that the Commission was in receipt of two medication recommendations from the USTA’s Harness Racing Medication Collaborative (HRMC), comprised of an esteemed group of practicing veterinarians, academics and pharmacologists.

The recommendations are for harness racing specific thresholds for clenbuterol and betamethazone and address the difference between the training and racing of Thoroughbred and Standardbred horses.

Bureau Director Brett Revington said the Commission is aware the recommendations are the result of approximately six months of work by the HRMC. The Commission will review and consider them at the next public meeting on Tuesday (Dec. 18).
