Lexington, KY — Bloodstock agent Pat Waldo, 79, died Oct. 3, 2020, at his home in Williamsport, Pa., after battling health issues since January.

Born and reared in Michigan and the son of a horseman, Mr. Waldo naturally chose a career in harness racing and “did a little bit of everything,” said his wife Charlyn, before landing a position with Phil Tully, who operated Woodstock Stud and the Garden State Sales Company. Charlyn was also from a harness racing family and the two met at Monticello Raceway and were married for 59 years on Sept. 17.

Mr. Waldo assisted Tully for most of the 1970s. In the 1980s, Mr. Waldo inspected scores of horses and advised many about potential purchases. Among his clients was Arlene Traub and he recommended she buy Valley Victory.

Mr. Waldo began working with Saratoga Standardbreds and while there developed the Preferred Equine division. In later years he served as a bloodstock advisor for Michael Parisi’s White Birch Farm and he also recommended the yearlings Chapter Seven and Market Share to Richard Gutnick.

“While Pat was advising Michael Parisi, he saw Darlin’s Delight and really liked her, but he told Michael not to sell her because she wouldn’t bring enough money because the mare was old,” said Charlyn Waldo. “Of course, she went on and had a great career (earning $2.9 million).”

In addition to his wife, Mr. Waldo is survived by two children, Jeffrey and Patricia (Dan) Bozza; and two grandchildren, Lia Bozza and Dominick Bozza.
