Power Of Veto got away third from post five to the opening :26.2 quarter and shot to the front just as they were crossing under the finish line for the first time. I’m Sorry Man (Chris Page) then made his move and pulled up alongside the leader at the :55 half. As the field of 10 got to the three-quarters in 1:22.1, Power Of Veto put away his challenger and fended off any horses in the field to win by a length. Walknafter Midnite (Trevor Smith) took advantage of the pocket trip and came home in :27.4 to finish second. Race favorite I’m Sorry Man held on for third.

Christi Noble trains the 3-year-old by Yankee Cruiser for owner Chuck Grubbs. The time of the mile was a new lifetime mark for the gelding out of the Western Terror mare We Adore Thee. Power Of Veto now has $24,315 on his card. Going off at odds of 9-5, he paid $5.60 to win.

The Sherman final was the third of four finals for the non-winners of two series for 3-5-year-olds named after Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association past presidents. Each series consisted of two legs and a final and followed on the heels of a successful non-winners of one series held in May. Both series were for Ohio sired horses.

The last final for the series, the Dr. Al Gabel (for male trotters), will be held Friday (June 25). The Richard Brandt (for female trotters) was won by Shenzi AS on June 17 in 1:55.3 while the Skip Hoovler (for female pacers) went to Dragons Lucky Lady on June 18 in 1:51.2.

Live racing is held at Eldorado Scioto Downs Tuesdays-Saturdays with the first post at 6:15 p.m. View the entire 2021 racing schedule here.
