Racing in the rain at Webster City

Webster City, IA – Iowa horsemen showcased the art of racing in the rain on Thursday (July 25) at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Webster City, Iowa.  The steady, light rain may have made for a slow track but did not dampen the enthusiasm for the six race card.

Race one belonged to Stoneville Music, driven by Brett Erickson.  When Erickson asked the 2-year-old Keystone Swagger filly to leave the gate, she trotted to the top in full command, taking the win in 2:26.

Erickson got his driving double in race three.  With another gate to wire move, Quote On House held off challenger Yankee Carmel, driven by Duane Roland, crossing the wire in 2:18.

But the race of the night belonged to the three-year-old pacers.  As the gate folded, there was a battle for the lead between Need To Make Money, driven by Duane Roland and Red Hot Ryan with Justin Gould in the bike.  Past the half, Samuel Zimmerman decided to make a bold move from fourth with Covenant, and the battle was over.  Winning easily in 2:08.1, Zimmerman celebrated not only the victory but also his birthday in the winner’s circle.

Race five and six belonged to Duane Roland.  Metatron won the Free For All Trot in 2:09.1, while Pretty Boy Swag continued his win streak in the Free For All Pace, coming home in 2:06.1.

Iowa Harness Horseman’s Association is proud to partner with Missouri Harness Horseman’s Association hosting racing at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Kahoka, Missouri on Sunday (7/28).  Post time is 12:30pm (CDT).
