Monday’s (Jan. 18) edition of Racing Roundup features results stories from Monticello Raceway and Dover Downs.

Dobson wins four on Monday at Monticello

Monticello, NY — Billy Dobson put on another driving clinic at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon when he won four races on the program. Last Thursday, Dobson won five races here and now leads the driving colony with 15 wins.

Dobson began the Monday card with a victory in the first race behind PB Racing Stables’ Fox Valley Marissa ($45.80) in a 2:01.1 clocking and came back to score a 1:59.3 triumph with Mary Beth Beauregard’s Jet From Above ($4.70) in the fifth race.

Victory number three came behind Angel Howell’s Flight Attendant ($4.10) in 1:59.3 in the eighth race and Dobson capped his afternoon performance with a 2:03 victory with PB Racing Stables’ Coco Khem ($13.40) in the 12th race.

Dobson, whose 132 wins here last season ranked him eighth on the local leaderboard, said last week that he was going to try to win the driving title here this season. And Monday Dobson reaffirmed his statement, not with words but with action.

Domitian Hanover captures Delaware Special

Dover, DE — Domitian Hanover, the third of six wins for Ron Pierce, came from off the pace in the $32,500 Delaware Special on Monday at Dover Downs.

It didn’t take long for Pierce to re-take the track dash-win lead. After 10 wins over the weekend, Corey Callahan had tied Pierce with 133 wins during the meet. Pierce stacked up six wins on the Monday program to reclaim first place.

Domitian Hanover was a neck winner in the Delaware Special.

In the $32,500 Delaware Special, Pierce pulled Domitian Hanover out of sixth after the half and followed the cover of Sniper Hall until past the three-quarters when Jim Morand made the lead with Sniper Hall and Domitian Hanover found room to be second. Pierce moved Domitian Hanover to the outside and won the dash to the wire by a long neck in 1:50.2 for owner/trainer Josh Green. Sniper Hall was second and Waipawa Lad N and Brad Hanners took show money. Domitian Hanover had been off for more than a month and won two qualifying races before this start.

Gottaservesomebody and Tony Morgan rushed right away from the gate in the $26,000 Open Pace and never looked back as the Artsplace-HH Sapphire gelding won for the second straight time for owner Marvin Callahan, who claimed the pacer for $40,000 last summer. Three Of Spades dashed down the lane for Jon Roberts to finish second, a head in front of third place finisher Western Ace and Ron Pierce.

Three noses separated the first three finishers in the $22,000 Winners Over Pace. Lloyd Arnold’s Estero Bay came out of the photo a 1:53 winner. Dollars Bromac N was second best for Vince Copeland while Desmet and Tim Tetrick had to settle for third. Estero Bay, a 4-year-old son of Western Ideal from Lloyd Arnold’s great mare Sanabelle Island, lost a similar photo last week, and was second in four straight races before that. Tony Morgan was the winning driver, his second win of the day.
