Rain doesn’t dampen day at Goshen

Goshen, NY — With a Hall of Fame Induction on the horizon for tomorrow evening, Ted Gewertz did not let the rain-soaked Saturday (July 6) card and a win by his homebred So Surreal colt, Surreal Art, take the smile off his face in the winners’ circle as the colt cruised to a brilliant victory for driver Jason Bartlett and trainer Anette Lorentzon.

Leaving from the six post, Bartlett hustled Surreal Art out of the gate but was left out past a :27.4 first quarter. Crossing over to the lead off the turn heading to the half, Bartlett rated a half in :57.2 while meeting a first-over challenge by Cory Stratton and Cal. Past the three quarters in 1:26.2, Bartlett’s charge put away Cal and Stratton to power away to a 3-1/2 length victory and a final quarter of :28.4 to seal it.

In the winners’ circle Gewertz was in his glory as his 3-year-old colt was escorted to receive his winning prize. The 1:55.1 final time was the fastest on the day as the rain came down quite hard during the early portion of the card.

Although the rain came, Bob Ashelman had the Tim Masters crew of Mike Petrelli and Ed Glick on point as the track remained intact and produced some quick times.

Other winners on the card were Its Rigged 1:58.3, Heavens Challenge 1:57.4, Gias Surreal 1:57.2, Chatleroll 1:56.3, Santini 2:00.2, Roll With Mimi 1:58.1, I’m Very Special 1:59.2.

Bartlett led the way with three driving victory’s and Scott Zeron posted two wins.

Racing concludes tomorrow with nine races. New York Sire Stakes Excelsior trotters are on display plus the Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge T. Gerry Sr. Hall of Fame Invitational Trot which features three Hall of Fame inductees in Blair Burgess, Linda Toscano and Joe Holloway. It also includes Wally Hennessy, Jimmy Takter, Brian Sears, David Miller, and Dick Stillings.

First post is at 1 p.m. with the gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
