Roberts wins three at Rosecroft

Oxon Hill, MD — Jonathan Roberts had a super Sunday (Feb. 10) at Rosecroft Raceway, winning three times and taking the top Open with Capital Builder in a 12-1 upset.

Roberts and Timmy Offut with Hickory Aloha, left aggressively from outer posts, and by the quarter pole, Capital Builder passed Hickory Aloha in :26.4. While those two sorted themselves out, Kim Vincent floated out with Rosecroft’s 2018 Horse of the Year, Rock N’ Roll Jet, sprinted to the top and rated a well judged :58 middle half. Allan Davis pulled Rock The Town first over and he gave it a heck of a try, but as he pounded on the leader, Roberts and Capital Builder were laying in the weeds in the pocket and pounced in the final strides to nip Rock N’ Roll Jet by inches for the win, returning $26.40 for Bib Roberts and trainer Megan Tolson.

Roberts wasn’t done paying big money as Mcardle Royale N registered a 9-1 upset in the $4,000 claimer blasting three-wide over the final quarter mile for a win in 1:56.2 for owners James Rideout and Strategic racing Stable and trainer Roy Jarman.

Roberts’ final win came with an impressive backside brush with Jack Quick who overtook Anderson Valley and won by three lengths in 1:53.1 for owner/trainer Basil Sapienza.

Ricky Still gave Tolson a training double as Rocktavious won a two-horse sprint with pace setting Abelard Hanover by a neck in 1:54.

Frank Milby won a pair with Mr. Big Bucks for owner Chris Devine and trainer Jason Walters, and Stakeout for Phil Jasper and Nicholas Amorates.

Russell Foster scored a pair of wins. Deacons Valley, who rarely loses at Rosecroft won in training mile form, scoring a four-length win in 1:55.1 for trainer John Cabot and owner William Cantrell.
