Roberts wins three on Wednesday at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Jonathan Roberts had three wins on the Wednesday night (April 10) card at Rosecroft, which produced a season high in handle.

Roberts got the night started with a win in the opener with Judge Bob, trained by his sister, Megan Tolson, for their father, Bib Roberts, M&W Stables and Graham Grace Stables. The homebred son of Great George Two-Endorphan Annie held off a stiff bid from Affair Of Honor to win in a lifetime best 1:57.

Roberts won another trot with Bossy Hilly. The 3-year-old daughter of Great George Two-Aerobic Linda was making her seasonal debut ahead of next week’s Maryland Sires Stakes program getting started.

Sitting fifth, Roberts launched a three-wide backside brush past tiring leaders Stonebridge Rhyme and Shermans Way. Leon Harris trains for Bib Roberts and Graham Grace Stables. The time of 1:57.2 was a lifetime best third win for the filly who made $32,103 in seven starts as a 2-year-old chasing unbeaten Pats A Keeper.

Roberts finished out a big night for his father, winning the mares feature with Winter Games. Declan Donoway pushed the pace with Hickory Pandle, cutting fractions of :26.4, :55, and 1:23. Roberts pressed the issue to the half on the outside, but was able to tuck in the pocket until the passing lane and edged up to win by a nose in 1:52.4 to produce a training double for Tolson.

Wayne Long produced an early driving double with Mark Gray trainees Cold N Chilly and Flying Pirate. While Cold N Chilly was the odds-on favorite for owner Anne McDonald, Flying Pirate turned the tables on Junkyard Treasure, paying $9.60.

Jason Thompson also had a double, winning with Joyce and Thomas Hollingsworth’s Dancingaroundapole who ended a 26-race winless streak. John Hollingsworth trains the son of Barber Pole who won in 1:56. Thompson also scorched the stonedust with Beammeupscottie for owner-trainer Brian Callahan in 1:54.2 for his second win of the year.
