Rock N’ Roll Jet takes Rosecroft Open Handicap Sunday night

Fort Washington, MD – Sunday night’s (March 1) $11,000 Open Handicap pace turned out to be a night for the closers at Rosecroft Raceway.

A pair of senior citizen geldings rose up and took the top two spots as 11-year-old Rock N Roll Jet ($11.20) held off 13-year-old Foxland in 1:52.3. The old guy exacta returned a healthy $261.40.

The winner was 11-1/2 lengths back at the opening quarter but used his traditional closing kick to power his way through a three-wide brush in the final quarter (:28.4) to get the win.

Kim Vincent piloted the winner who scored for the 54th time in his career. The son of Rocknroll Hanover is owned by Dawn Webb and trainer William “Buddy” Bright.

Twelve different drivers won on the Sunday night card and drivers Jonathan Roberts and Frank Milby picked up a pair of wins each.

Both of Milby’s wins came for trainer Jason Walters as Always A Tiger ($5.80) scored a three-length victory for owner Joseph Plummer.  In the opener, Lil Johnny ($4) closed from last and scored by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.1 for Walters who also owns the son of Big Bad John.

Roberts won with Prince Clyde ($3.40) for owner-trainer Richard Malone Jr. and Art Of A Warrior ($24.80) for trainer Shaun Callahan and Breakaway Racing.

Every member of the Davis family scored a win last night as Tyler won with True Cut ($32.20) netting trainer James Stuart his first lifetime training win.  Eddie Jr. won with Hide Me Away ($5.80) for Joseph Hayes Jr. and trainer Eric Davis.

Eric Davis won with Finding Terror ($21.80) giving him a training double. Joseph Pisarski owns the son of Western Terror who won for the 33rd time in his career. Allan Davis rallied Wheres My Money ($7.80) for a second straight win as he scored for owner-trainer Howard Birney.

Rosecroft will have a $2,590 carryover for Wednesday night’s (March 4) Pick-5 wager, which starts in the second race.  Sunday night’s inaugural Pick-4 wager returned $611.85.
