Rosiemunn wins Vernon Downs feature

Vernon, NY — Rosiemunn and Howard Parker took the featured $6,000 pacing event for fillies and mares on Thursday (July 11) at Vernon Downs.

Rosiemunn ($6.10) took the lead to a first quarter of :27.2, while Beyonces Rockn (Jennifer Lappe) followed in the pocket and Unusual Clarity (Joe Nassimos) was next in third. Rosiemunn continued to carve out the fractions through the half in :58.1 and three-quarters in 1:27.1.

Rosiemunn maintained the lead at the top of the stretch, but Unusual Clarity moved first-over and gave chase. As they reached deep stretch, Unusual Clarity gave one last charge, but Rosiemunn dug in to win in 1:54.3. Unusual Clarity settled for second with Beyonces Rockn finishing third.

Rosiemunn, a 5-year-old mare by Dream Away, is owned and trained by Kerin Warner. It was her fifth win this season and the 12th of her career.

Parker drove two winners on the night; his other win came with Pudge’s Pastime ($8.20). Leon Bailey trained and drove two winners on the night, combining with owners Donn Lewandrowski and Gail Farrell. Their wins came with Artic Belle ($9.60) and Tiger Boudoir ($30.80).

Bad I Am (Fern Paquet Jr.) won the $4,000 Peter J. Marshall Memorial Race. The 8-year-old gelding by Prayer I Am is owned by trainer John Hallett and Michelle Oglesby. Bad I Am paid $11.60.

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (July 12), with a 10-race card starting at 6:10 p.m.
