Schadel trainees sweep Pocono features

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Trainer Linda Schadel swept the $17,000 featured trots on a soggy Tuesday afternoon at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, tallying with Focus Pocus in 1:57.2 and then with Sweet Heart AS in 1:56.4.

Sweet Heart AS overcame an uncovered trip to give trainer Linda Schadel a sweep of the trotting features Tuesday at Pocono. Curtis Salonick photo.

Sweet Heart AS advanced uncovered from last in a five-horse field, but driver Marcus Miller got him to grind by the pacesetting Bang Bang Boinga, who eventually made a break, before out-closing the potential pocket rocket So Long Hanover by a neck. Linda and Tony Schadel share ownership of the 4-year-old Conway Hall mare.

Tyler Buter used Focus Pocus to reach the early lead in his event, and then gave up the lead to trail early mover Serrano Volo. Focus Pocus stayed in the pocket until the Pocono Pike came, and then Buter tipped him inside, where he prevailed over the rugged 26-1 first-over Dudelookslikealindy by a half length. Linda also shares ownership of the victorious 4-year-old Muscle Massive gelding with her husband, Tony.

In Tony’s absence, Linda picked out the right catch drivers for her double, as Miller, with four wins, and Buter, with three, accounted for half the driving tallies on the 14-race card.

Pocono presents the final card of its 2021 racing season this Saturday (October 30) at 12:30 p.m. Southwind Ozzi, coming off a win against similar rivals at Harrah’s Philadelphia, is the early 5-2 favorite in the $21,500 featured pace, carded as race 10. Program pages will be available at the PHHA website.
