Sophia Lia, the 7-2 second choice, started from post four and pushed to the lead before yielding the top spot to French Cafe, the 1-5 favorite, coming off the first turn. French Cafe set fractions of :28, :57, and 1:26 before being unable to hold off Sophia Lia’s challenge down the lane.

A filly by Guccio out of Northern Mystique, Sophia Lia is trained by Chris Beaver, who shares ownership with Donald Robinson, R.B.H. Ventures, and William Rufenacht. She was bred by Alan Troyer.

“Chris told me about the mare and said she could get a little weak late, but today she didn’t,” said winning driver Tim Tetrick, whose election to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame was announced Tuesday. “She finished up strong and beat a very nice mare.”

For the year, Sophia Lia has won three of 11 races and earned $96,484. She has won six of 23 career starts and $146,605.
