Special events slated for Hall of Fame weekend

from the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame

Goshen, NY — There are many special events planned for this year’s Hall of Fame weekend in Goshen, N.Y.

The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily (last tour 4:30 p.m.) except for Hall of Fame Day, Sunday, July 6, when the museum will close a half-hour earlier, at 4:30 p.m. (Last tour is 4:00 p.m.).

The evening’s festivities will begin with the new exhibit opening at 5:00 p.m. of “The Kentucky Connection.” The occasion will be followed by cocktails, dinner and the induction ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. Track designer Chuck Coon and mega-owner Lou Guida are the main honorees. Others receiving honors are “Sonny” Werblin, Murray Janoff, Alan Prince, and the Standardbreds Amour Angus, Camluck, Malabar Man, Rosemary and Silk Stockings.

Tickets are still available for the dinner. They are $100 per person and can be obtained by calling the museum at (845) 294-6330.

On Hall of Fame Day, Sunday, July 6, there will also be two book signings. The first, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. will feature the executive editor of Sports Illustrated, Charles Leerhsen, who recently wrote the best seller, Crazy Good: The True Story of Dan Patch The Most Famous Horse in America. Mr. Leerhsen will read from his book and give a short talk on the top pop culture figure of the 1900s. His book may be purchased in the museum gift shop and taken to Mr. Leerhsen for his signature.

The second signing, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. is with Nicole Kraft, executive editor of Hoof Beats, the official magazine of the United States Trotting Association. 100 Years in Harness is a coffee table caliber tome providing a photographic journey through the history of America’s first national sport. Ms. Kraft will be located by the museum’s Walk of Fame (in the event of rain she will relocate to the museum’s Carriage Room). A portion of book sales will be donated to the museum.

The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame is located at 240 Main Street in Goshen, New York. Thanks to United States Trotting Association support, free admission is offered for walk-in visitors with $4.00/person for group docent-guided tours.
