Standardbreds entertain and educate at The Midwest Horse Fair

Madison, WI — The Standardbred breed was well received as they educated many of the 61,000 attendees at the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison, Wisconsin this past weekend.

Three Pacers, a trotter, a western pleasure, a hunt seat, and a decorated jumper showcased the versatility of the breed in their demonstration on Sunday, April 14. As the theme this year was “40 Years of Legends,” each horse was introduced as a legend in its own way.

Back in the barns, at the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association booth, fairgoers were treated to race replays,  harnessing demonstrations,  and an up close and personal meet and greet with the Standardbreds that, at one point in their lives, had called the Wisconsin County Fair circuit their home.  Perhaps the highlight of the booth was Pacin Plywood, the life-sized wooden horse, aka “Woody” standing attentive the entire weekend.  Woody allowed a rare, up-close look at all the equipment involved on a pacer, that most race fans only see in a blur as the horses fly by them on the track. He even gave a few kids the opportunity to take the lines, try on a set of colors, and climb up into the racebike to have their picture taken. Wisconsin Harness Horse Association looks forward to next year’s Midwest Horse Fair, “All Trails Lead to Midwest Horse Fair ” and hopes to see many new faces at the track this summer.
