Standardbreds head to Great Frederick Fair

by Charlene Sharpe, for The Great Frederick Fair

Frederick, MD — Standardbreds will be on full display this month at the Great Frederick Fair.

The fair in Frederick, Md., which runs from Sept. 14-22, features harness racing, an all-Standardbred horse show, a Racing Under Saddle demonstration and several other Standardbred themed exhibits.

Racing at the fair, which is one of only two in Maryland that still offers live harness racing, is set for Sept. 19-22 each day at noon.

The all-Standardbred show, which is being held for the second year in a row, is scheduled for 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Sept. 22. Standardbreds from Maryland as well as out of state will compete in classes ranging from halter to hunter under saddle to barrel racing. Noted Maryland artist Rebecca Pearl will be among the competitors and will bring her Standardbred to the grandstand for a meet-and-greet with fairgoers after the horse show.

The Racing Under Saddle demonstration is set to take place Sept. 22 during the afternoon’s live racing card.
