Surreal Syrha wins distaff pace at Plainridge

Plainville, MA.–Following live cover on the back half, Surreal Syrah captured her fourth win of the year in Plainridge Park’s $17,500 featured mares pace on Sunday (Oct. 24).

Kevin Switzer Jr. got away sixth with Surreal Syrah as Sweet Sue (Jim Hardy) and Hilaria (Mike Stevenson) traded leads in the :26.3 first quarter. Hilaria then carried on to the half where Avery Seelster (John Nason) pulled first-over and Switzer followed with Surreal Syrah.

As the race passed the three-quarter pole, Hilaria and Avery Seelster we’re locked up in dispute, so Surreal Syrah tipped three deep around them, cleared at the top of the stretch and cruised home on top by two lengths in 1:54.

Surreal Syrah ($11.40) cracked the $60,000 mark in earnings for the year with the win for owner Dan Tuccillo Jr., who also trains the winner.

Drivers Drew Campbell and Drew Monti each had two winners on Sunday.

The finals of the $2.24 Massachusetts Sire Stakes will be held at Plainridge Park on Monday (Oct. 25) starting with two non-betting events that will be contested at 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. Eight divisions worth $100,000 each will go postward to crown this year’s state-bred champions.Post time for the pari-mutuel card is 2 p.m.
