Taggart wins four at Monticello

Monticello, NY — Drivers Jim Taggart Jr. and Greg Merton both enjoyed a successful Wednesday (Nov. 25) afternoon at Monticello Raceway, winning four and three races, respectively.

Taggart started the day off on the right foot, winning the first race with Grave Dancer by three lengths in 1:58 for trainer Dan Gill. He was back in the winner’s circle two races later with Gary Messenger trainee KJ Owen, who paced the mile in 1:55.4 and romped by a seven lengths. Taggart’s third win came by virtue of a dead heat in race eight: Taggart and Chip Chip Conway were equaled by Hot Summer Knight and Cory Stratton in a 1:58.4 effort. Superiorcourt completed Taggart’s grand slam, winning wire-to-wire from post seven to win in 1:59.1 for trainer Rick Harp.

Merton won with Threehundred Wirth (1:57.2), Rise Up Now (1:57.1) and Tinos Pulse (1:58.3).

Messenger and Gill each scored a training double on the 13-race program.

Taggart currently trails Bruce Aldrich Jr. by 20 wins in the Monticello driving standings.
