Dover, DE — Tiger Thompson N roared to a 1:50 victory in Thursday night’s (Jan. 21) $20,000 Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs.
Tiger Thompson N and Goldberg left most quickly, and Goldberg used a :26.1 first quarter to clear the lead. Dexter Dunn sensed the pace was slowing in front of the stands and pulled the pocket with Tiger Thompson to achieve command through a :55 half. The action picked up on the backstretch, as Itsrockandroll A advanced on the outside and flushed cover from Tyga Hanover nearing three-quarters in 1:22.2.
At the top of the stretch, Yannick Gingras ducked Tyga Hanover into a vacated pocket, saving his mount for a late surge. In the lane, Tyga Hanover surged after Tiger Thompson N, and a thrilling stretch duel between both horses ensued. Tiger Thompson N ruled supreme, winning by a neck as the 2-1 favorite. Tyga Hanover finished second over Itsrockandroll A (Corey Callahan).
Trainer Josh Parker owns Tiger Thompson N, an 8-year-old Big Jim gelding, with Nanticoke Racing Inc., Stephen Messick and the Prestige Stable.
Racing resumes at Dover Downs on Monday (Jan. 25). Post time is 4:30 p.m.
