Timmy Offutt wins with trio of longshots at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Timmy Offutt had a sensational Wednesday night (Oct. 21) at Rosecroft Raceway, winning three times, and those who wagered on him were even happier as he posted solid numbers on the infield toteboard.

Under a crescent moon and fast track, Offutt took the $10,000 Open Trot with Puddin N Pie, giving trainer Howard Birney a new lifetime mark of 1:55 and returning a massive $33.20 off a 9-2 morning line. It was the third win in 17 starts this year for the 6-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide who has won two of his last three.

Offutt took a conditioned event with Rodeo Blues, who he trains and co-owns with Benjamin Offutt and paid $31.60 despite a 4-1 morning line, and he topped the night off winning for Birney again, as Rock King Deo, 1-48 coming in, won in a lifetime best 1:54.2, running down pacesetter Ideal Perfect Ten in the final eighth of a mile, returning $41.80.

Driver Roger Plante had a pair of wins as he guided Ladybeluckytonite ($18.60) to a win in the Mares Open Handicap in 1:52 for owner Robert Cacamese and trainer Steve LeBlanc. After Hillbilly Jet and Sweet Bobbie engaged in a :54 opening half, it was clear the winner was coming from the back. Cruizinforavictory took one for the team and attacked first over for Tyler Davis, while Plante followed and outmuscled his cover and Winter Games who closed for second.

Plante also netted a victory with Carolin Oglesby’s Spinwithme who was the odds on choice in race seven in a bottom level conditioned event for mares.

Driver John Wagner had a pair of wins for trainer Arlene Cameron, as Wagner won with Tartufo Lindy ($4.00) and Officer Wholihan ($4.20), both horses he owns.

Eddie Davis Jr., the meet’s leading driver, continued his success with wins aboard Brian Callahan’s Mittany Nicole ($7.00) and Ken Schlotzhauer’s Caribbean Sam-Nin ($12.40).

Sean Bier captured the opener with Flash’s Fool in a lifetime tying best of 1:53.2 for owner-trainer Jason Walters while Jared Moyer completed the early daily double ($38) with Emma Clare for Robert Pulley and trainer Sheldon Powell.

Trainer Trevor Stafford rarely drives, but with a nice developing 3-year old, Stafford remained aboard his new American Ideal colt Manaccount ($5.60) who has liked his new surroundings. He’s now 1-1-1 in four starts for Stafford, winning in 1:55.1.

Jonathan Roberts picked up his 12th win of the meet with Silk Beach ($10.40), cutting the mile for owner-trainer Michael Hall in 1:54.4, a new lifetime mark.

Jason Thompson won a conditioned trot with Dreamfair Bogart ($3.60) for Kathleen Layton and trainer Jonathan Nikodemski.

Rosecroft’s Fall meet has been highlighted by a youth movement, as 19-year-old Trae Porter put a new lifetime mark of 1:54.3 on Bay Pond Racing Stable’s Movie Town ($24.20) for trainer Jeff Stafford.

Also, 18-year-old Cole Olsen hit the board in just his second pari-mutuel start at Rosecroft as Smart Rokker finished third in race five.

Finally, 20-year-old Luke Hanners, who drove Hillbillycamtastic in Wednesday night’s Mares Open, has three wins at the meet.
