Trotting fillies impress at Harrah’s Philadelphia

Chester, PA — Six days in advance of their seasonal Pennsylvania Sire Stakes debuts, sophomore trotting fillies Next Level Stuff and Creature Of Habit recorded victories on Thursday (July 9) at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Next Level Stuff won the day’s $13,600 feature in 1:54 for driver Tim Tetrick. Spotted in third early, the daughter of Sebastian K S benefitted from a mid-race break from Bully Boy before challenging for the lead late on the backstretch. Pacesetter Grapple Hanover put up a brave showing, but Next Level Stuff wore him down to win by a length. Jim Campbell trains the eight-time winner for the Runthetable Stables.

Creature Of Habit also got help from miscuing opposition in lowering her mark to 1:54.2, erasing a breaking Ava Kathryn’s four-length stretch lead to win by 4-1/4 lengths. Dexter Dunn drove the Donato Hanover filly for trainer ‘Nifty’ Norman and the partnership of Melvin Hartman, David McDuffee and Diamond Creek Racing.

Sherry Lyns Lady, also a well-regarded Sire Stakes entrant having banked over $300,000 in earnings last season, was a solid second to Captain Krupnik’s 1:54.2 mile in her sophomore debut. Leaving from the outside post eight, Tetrick tucked the Father Patrick filly in fifth early before advancing uncovered and coming up 1-1/4 lengths short of the Dunn-driven Captain Krupnik, who has won three of his last four starts for Belmar Racing and Breeding LLC and trainer Jenny Melander.
