Trotting frosh contest second-round DSBF splits

Dover, DE — The second leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund for 2-year-old trotters took place on a mild Tuesday (Nov. 19) at Dover Downs, featuring two $20,000 divisions for colts and geldings, as well as two for fillies.

The first colt and gelding division was a four-horse non-wagering event which saw the Winbak Farm-bred All Lies (Political Briefing-Bobbi Jo’s Ex) get up for his maiden win in 1:58.4. He was driven by Victor Kirby for trainer Syl King Jr. and Bay Pond Racing. Rocky Bomber got up for second over Air Time.

The second colt and gelding division was all Zulu (CR Commando-CR Penny Lane), a repeat winner from last week, in a new lifetime record of 1:58 for breeder, owner, trainer and driver Rod Allen. Touch Of White was second, followed by Chauffeur in third.

The first division for fillies went to first-time winner Alert (Xactly Hanover-Mitsou Hanover) in 2:00.2 for trainer-driver Kim Vincent. Alert is owned by Bart Cavanagh’s Providence West Inc. of Media, Pa and was bred by Andy Markano. Happy To Do It finished a close second over last week’s winner, Playoff Season.

The second filly division went to repeat winner Emmys Mayflower (Anders Bluestone-Stirling Charisma) in a new lifetime mark of 1:57.2. Russell Foster handled the driving duties for his uncle, breeder, owner and trainer Eric Foster. Orabelle, the Harrington final winner, was second, and Wolfcat was placed third above the breaking Katies Blu Diamond.

The top eight point earners of each sex will race in a pair of $100,000 finals on Nov. 26. There is a combined $15,000 consolation for colts and fillies.

The DSBF continues tomorrow night with 2-year-old pacing fillies in both halves of the daily double. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
