USTA assists Dayton horsemen

by Sue Brickell

Dayton, PA — With the help of the USTA’s Fair Grant initiative, the Dayton horsemen hosted an exciting two-day Pennsylvania Sires Stake racing program this past weekend.

The theme was Rock The Races and featured Jammin Jim, a local DJ, playing race appropriate tunes between the heats and entertaining the crowd with jokes, anecdotes featuring harness drivers, and giveaways to the crowd.

The younger fans lined up to recieve the new USTA activity book and trading cards, while the older crowd enjoyed the free t-shirts that advertised Rock The Races, and insulated beverage holders with the harness racing logo.

The refreshment stand benefited the local Cancer Society.

Horsemen were treated to a complimentary picnic dinner each day after the races courtesy of the Dayton horsemen.

An additional surprise was the generous donation of a full set of numbers to the Pennsylvania Fair Harness Horsemen by Connie Holt. Holt has supplied numbers to several Ohio fairs and operates the Colors by Connie business which provides racing colors to many Pennsylvania harness drivers. A special thanks to her.
