Vernissage Grif wins Italian classic race in Montecatini

The Gran Premio Citta di Montecatini, raced at the picturesque racetrack in Montecatini in Tuscany Sunday night (Aug. 15), saw an impressive winner in the 8-year old Vernissage Grif, with trainer/driver Alessandro Gocciadoro.

The Gran Premio is raced with two eliminations, which were won by Vernissage Grif in a new track record of 1:53h and by Zacon Gio with Roberto Vecchione in 1:56h.

Zacon Gio was in command in the final, but from the outside Vernissage Grif proved to be the strongest and won easily in 1:53.2h, followed four lengths back by the French mare, Billie de Montfort with Gabriele Gelormoni, who just managed to get the better of Zacon Gio.

Vernissage Grif is a chestnut trotter sired by legendary Varenne, who earned $65,000 for the win.
