Vernon, NY — Winning Princess (Jennifer Lappe) won the $6,000 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 5).

Scirocco Imsosmart (Homer Hochstetler) was first to the quarter in :27.0. He continued to lead to the half in :56.

Gimme The Cash (John MacDonald) went first-over and took the lead just before hitting three-quarters in 1:25.2.
Winning Princess ($6.20), who is owned and trained by Lappe, was fourth after three-quarters. She then came flying down the stretch and looked Gimme The Cash right in the eye and flew right by to win in a career best of 1:55.1. Spoiler Alert (Howard Parker) came charging late to finish second. Gimme The Cash had to settle for third.

Winning Princess is a 6-year-old mare by Credit Winner. It was her third win this season. She now has 20 career victories.

Truman Gale had a driving double on the night. He was first with Fire Storm K T ($11.60), and Bad I Am ($5.50).

John MacDonald leads all Vernon Downs drivers in wins with 55. Jimmy Whittemore is currently in second with 35 tallies. Howard Parker is third with 31 wins. Claude Huckabone III occupies fourth place with 23 victories. Claude Huckabone Jr. rounds out the top five with 17 trips to the winner’s circle this season.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (July 6) with a nine race card staring at 6:10 p.m.
