14-year-old trotter wins Italian Gran Premio

The 14-year-old gelding Arazi Boko won his first race in 2021 at the track in Trieste, Italy. Arazi Boko, with Santo Mollo, in the bike was in command the whole trip in the Gran Premio Giorgio Jegher and won in 2:004h.

Arazi Boko, who is a Swedish-bred trotter but with an Italian champion sire, Varenne, has been a stalwart in Italian Gran Premio races for several years. Last year Arazi Boko raced 18 times, won six races, and earned $175,000. His total earnings are $1.6 million.

Arazi Boko is trained by Alessandro Gocciadoro.

In other news from Italy, Enrico Bellei, 57, posted victory number 10,000 and is just the third European driver to reach that milestone. The two others are Heinz Wewering of Germany and Jorma Kontio of Finland.

Bellei has been the reigning champion in Italy for many years, but after a crash in 2018, he doesn’t take part in many races anymore.
