$750,000 Walner share tops Harrisburg sale

Harrisburg, PA — The lone stallion share offered for trotting sire Walner in Thursday’s opening session of the Standardbred Horse Sale’s mixed sale brought the biggest price of the week, going for $750,000 to Patty Key. The previous high figure, $600,000 for filly trotter Date Night Hanover, came in Monday’s opening session of the yearling sale.

The Walner share was consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing.

Leading the list of horses to sell Thursday was 5-year-old female trotter I D Diana, who was foaled in Norway. She was purchased for $225,000 by Euro Stall SE and consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing.

I D Diana, a daughter of Andover Hall-Irene’s Lucky Lady, is a three-quarter sister to Dunk The Donato, the dam of millionaire world-record-holder Plunge Blue Chip, and a half-sister to stakes-winner Thislady’sdynamite, whose Walner-sired filly Volcanic Blue Chip sold for $325,000 to top Tuesday’s second session of this year’s yearling sale.

The trotting stallion Southwind Frank sold for $215,000 on Thursday to Burke Racing Stable. Southwind Frank was consigned by Diamond Creek. For more information on Southwind Frank and the potential of him returning to the track in 2023, click here.

Also topping $200,000 were female trotters Honor Thy Daughter and Unexpected Gift, who each were purchased for $205,000.

Honor Thy Daughter, in foal to Muscle Hill, went to Kentuckiana Farms. A daughter of Donato Hanover-Honorable Daughter, Honor Thy Daughter has produced four stakes-winning fillies, including Grand Circuit winners Beautiful Game and Special Honor. Special Hill, her first foal, is the dam of recent Breeders Crown champion Special Way.

Unexpected Gift, in foal to Walner, was purchased by Michelle Crawford. Unexpected Gift, a 4-year-old, is a daughter of Cantab Hall-Southwind Catlin. She is a half-sister to millionaire Spider Blue Chip with an extended family that includes Dan Patch Award-winner Broadway Donna, Hambletonian Oaks winner Fashion Schooner, and millionaire Back Of The Neck.

Honor Thy Daughter and Unexpected Gift were consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing.

A total of 273 horses and stallion shares sold Thursday for $10.1 million, an average of $37,194.
